Yussuf Bashir

Executive Director
Yussuf Bashir is the Executive Director and a founder of Haki na Sheria Initiative. Haki na Sheria Initiative is a human rights organization working in northern Kenya. He is an advocate of the High Court of Kenya with extensive experience in successfully litigating public interest cases, including the Huduma Namba case where he served as a lead counsel for the Nubian community.

About Me:

Education & Training

Yussuf has spent his career working with various local and international NGOS fighting to end discrimination and various human rights violations of minorities and marginalized communities in Kenya. Haki na Sheria has trained young community paralegals who have assisted over 10,000 poor pastoralists in Garissa to acquire birth certificates and National Identity Cards. Yussuf was recognized for his work in the Global Good ID awards as an accountability champion for the year 2020.

Yussuf has a masters degree in law from Queen Mary University of London and is a graduate of University of Nairobi and Kenya School of Law. He is also a previous recipient of the Chevening Scholarship.
